ARTISTS with strong connections to the north-west and New England regions are invited to submit artworks to be displayed in the new Tamworth Mental Health Unit, with Expressions of Interest now open.

Health Infrastructure Executive Director of Rural and Regional Projects, Amanda Bock, said the arts program for the new unit offers a unique opportunity for local artists to contribute to the new facility.

“Integrating art and storytelling into mental health facilities plays an important role in supporting healing and enhancing the experience for consumers, staff and visitors,” Ms Bock said.

“Local art will give the new facility a distinct, local identity that will inspire and comfort those who receive care and work in the clinical spaces.

“The artworks will feature in interview and meeting rooms and will be reproduced as wall graphics in patient bedrooms, brightening spaces within the health facility.

“We encourage local artists to register their interest and get involved.”

The latest EOI builds on the arts program for the new mental health inpatient unit, which will feature unique artworks by local Aboriginal artists Amy Hammond, Tess Reading and Audrey Trindall, which were announced last year.

Expressions of Interest for the art project will be open until Friday, February 14 at 5pm.

Applications can be submitted here: Expression of Interest: Tamworth Mental Health Unit, Art Project

Following a selection process, artists will be notified in late March, with artworks expected to be installed later this year.
