NORTHERN Slopes Landcare and OzFish will host a school holidays family-friendly carp muster in Moree on Sunday, October 13.
Registration and sign-in will take place at Jellicoe Park from 6am.
Fishing lines need to be in the water and carp-ready by 7am.
Early registrations to streamline the process and avoid any delays on the day are encouraged.
Catch weigh-ins – with plenty of prizes – need to be back at home base by 2.30pm.
Prize categories include best carp and mystery length and there will be raffle prizes as well.
Local Landcare co-ordinator, Kiara Temperley, said bait will be available on-site – early birds get the worm – but fishers are encouraged to take along their own.
“We’re asking everyone to join us for a carp muster with some awesome prizes and a barbeque lunch,” Ms Temperley said.
“Carp are a serious, introduced pest in Australian fresh waters. They are damaging aquatic plants, muddying waters and harming native animals.
“We are promoting a healthy future for fish while encouraging families to get outdoors and enjoy themselves,” she said.
The carp-only event offers a free barbecue lunch and participants are required to bring sunscreen, a hat, fishing gear, and closed-in shoes for safety.
The carp muster, while ridding local waterways of an environmental pest, is a great opportunity to relax, mingle with fellow participants, and refuel after a morning of fishing.
Ms Temperley recommends early bird registrations to ensure the process runs smoothly on Sunday.

Sunday’s carp muster is made possible through the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust.
The Trust can provide funding for numerous recreational fishing projects including fishing workshops and clinics, teaching children and adults how to fish as well as fishing for therapy, schools education programs, fishing advisory, increasing participation in recreational fishing and other fishing club events to promote fishing.
Moree fishing guru, Richie Hardman, whose local camping and fishing store, Hardman Outdoors, donated prizes for Sunday’s event, said carp musters are needed to keep rivers, dams and waterways carp-free.
“We need carp musters to clean up the river system and make the waterways healthy and sustainable,” Mr Hardman said.
“In fact, we need more carp musters on a regular basis to help keep these pests under control.”
