Perfect spring day for St Philomena’s Spring Fair

A BIG crowd enjoyed picture-postcard weather on a bright, sunny morning to take in the delights of the St Philomena’s Catholic School P&F annual Spring Fair on Sunday.

Bric-a-brac and trash ‘n’ treasure stalls, plenty of food and refreshments, and a stack of kids’ entertainment and play areas dotted the school grounds as families enjoyed a terrific day out.

Appetites were sated with home-made pizzas, hot chips, sushi, roast meat rolls, sausage sandwiches, fruit salad, slushies, and freshly made orange juice.

A display of vintage Cadillacs from the 1960s and 1970s, kindly supplied by Cadillac LaSalle Club in Queensland, lined the northern end of the school grounds and St Philomena’s P&F president Scott Antees and sidekick Mark Hollahan did a roaring trade selling raffle tickets at the southern end.

The Spring Fair is the school P&F’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and again didn’t disappoint.

Mr Antees, who will pass the president’s baton to Chris Hartin later this year, said the success of the Spring Fair was a team effort.

“It’s been a great day, and a beautiful day out, and I want to give a big thanks to the committee and everyone that gets involved – all the helpers and all the sponsors,” Mr Antees said.

“We’ve got good numbers on the committee, and we’ve got plenty of people who are happy to help – that’s really, really important.

“The parents, the kids and the businesses, and everyone else who gets involved, are just fantastic. We think the world of all of our sponsors. They always help us out,” he said.

The big group of volunteers and supporters will regroup in the coming weeks to organise the school’s next fundraiser in a couple of months’ time.

“We have a colour run in November, which we hold every year,” Mr Antees said.

“It’s held on the school grounds, with an obstacle course and the colour run, of course. It’s a big event and will raise money for the P&F committee to work on their ongoing projects.”

After 10 years at the helm, Mr Antees will step down from the role.

“This is my last year as P&F president, and my tenth year. Chris Hartin will be taking over as president, and I want to wish Chris and the team all the best,” he said.
