A Moree Plains welcome for essential workers

POLICE officers, teachers, firefighters, medical professionals, allied healthcare workers and childcare workers are set to receive an extra-special Moree Plains welcome, thanks to New South Wales Government funding over the next two years.

The Welcome Experience, delivered by Moree Plains Shire Council, will be a free concierge-style service to support essential workers and their families feel more at home in their new community through personalised support, local information and connections.

Mayor Mark Johnson highlighted the importance of the program in supporting a stronger and more connected regional community.

“Helping our essential workers find their feet more easily when they move here, and keeping these community builders in our region for longer where possible, supports the social fabric of our towns and longer-term population growth,” Cr Johnson said.

“Moree Plains Shire Council is eager to welcome hundreds of new workers and their families to our community and delighted to have the support from the NSW Government for this important program.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the amazing community we have,” he said.

Government and non-government workers in the following industries are eligible for The Welcome Experience, including those employed in health, aged care, education, early childhood, disability support, child protection and out-of-home care, and corrections and justice emergency services.

Employer and community workshops will take place in Moree and Mungindi during October to shape what the program will look like for the Moree Plains.

Employers and community organisations are welcome to register for these workshops by contacting Moree Plains Shire Council on 02 6757 3440 or email welcome@mpsc.nsw.gov.au.
