Bamara launches Parent Pathways program

MOREE service provider Bamara this month launched Parent Pathways, a voluntary service providing personalised and financial support to eligible parents and carers of children aged up to six years.

Parent Pathways, funded by the Australian Government, was rolled out across Moree as well as other New England and north-west locations, including Armidale, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Inverell, Narrabri, Tamworth and Wee Waa.

A team of experienced and qualified support mentors across the network will work closely with participants to achieve personal, study or work goals at a pace that suits.

Indigenous-owned Bamara recently relocated to new premises on Balo Street in Moree, where dedicated staff includes Parents Pathways’ support mentor, Kerry Macey.

Bamara operations manager, Kelly Newlyn, said Bamara support mentors provide connections to local services offering essential support to parents and carers in key areas.

“These include assistance with driver licensing, financial assistance, childcare options, support for domestic violence, counselling services, educational opportunities, work readiness skills and connecting participants with local employers,” Mrs Newlyn said.

“Our facilities provide a safe and child-friendly environment, allowing participants to bring their children along as well.”

Eligibility requirements for Parent Pathways’ participants are quite broad.

These include having a child, or are a primary caregiver for a child under the age of six, and residing in an area with a Parent Pathways provider.

Eligible participants must receive Parenting Payment, Carer Payment or Special Benefit Payment.

Those not receiving Centrelink payments may still qualify if they are under 22 years of age, parents or caregivers without a Year 12 qualification or identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

“Appointments can be scheduled flexibly, either in person, by telephone or online and are designed to accommodate families at a time that suits them best,” Mrs Newlyn said.

The Bamara network is made up of a highly skilled and experienced team, dedicated to helping participants throughout their journeys.

“Whether the goals are related to personal development, education or career advancement, we guide participants at a pace that feels comfortable for them at every step of the journey,” Mrs Newlyn said.

“Our support mentors are trained to be trauma-informed and culturally competent, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

“As an approved child-safe organisation, we prioritise the well-being of all individuals we work with. “Our Moree team is well-acquainted with the local area and has strong connections to various services, allowing us to provide comprehensive support tailored to each person’s unique needs,” she said.

Bamara delivers Parent Pathways services Monday to Wednesday at 26 Balo Street, Moree.
