Botanical Horizons at The Moree Gallery from November 14

GALLERY owner Gig Moses is overjoyed to bring award-winning artist Katie Wyatt back to Moree for the official launch of her solo exhibition, Botanical Horizons, at The Moree Gallery on Thursday, November 14.

“Following a series of successful exhibitions during the past 10 years, I’m thrilled to welcome Katie back to The Moree Gallery,” Gig said.

“Katie has amassed an incredible loyal following of collectors and art lovers, and is regularly featured in design projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.”

The Adelaide-based artist paints large, heavily textured impressionist pieces, based on personal experiences, memories, photographs and recollections.

The artist and gallery owner have known each other for 10 years. They met in 2013 after Katie enquired about displaying her work at The Moree Gallery.

“I’m really excited about my upcoming exhibition with Gig – it’s a lovely, full circle moment,” Katie said.

“In 2013, I was only represented in Adelaide and looking for representation interstate.

“Gig was so lovely and encouraging and said she would take me on as an artist. I still have that email,” Katie smiled.

“I have a very close family and my beautiful dad, Elliott, said ‘we should drive up and meet her’, so we did.

“We loaded dad’s Landcruiser and did an epic road trip. Dad has framed my work for many years and has been an incredible support.

“After that first meeting, Gig sold my work regularly and I had a solo exhibition, Inside Out, in 2014.

“It’s really special that 10 years later I will be at the gallery once again with a new body of work,” she said.

The Moree Gallery, a highly-esteemed destination gallery established in the 1997, exhibits contemporary, emerging and mid-career Australian artists and ceramicists with four major shows each year.

“Gig is certainly much-loved and highly regarded in the art world. She is knowledgeable and so generous,” Katie said.

The artist recently caught up with Sarah McDonald, another prominent South Australian artist, at Katie’s solo exhibition, Down to Earth, at Adelaide in March.

“Sarah described Gig as our ‘Arty Fairy Godmother’, and she is 100 per cent correct about that,” Katie said warmly.

Gig said Katie’s bold impasto works have featured in key galleries across Australia in recent years.

“Katie is primarily and abstract artist. Her landscapes and botanical works are brought to life through her expressive and evocative palette of blues, greens and earth tones, all brought together with her trusty palette knife,” Gig said.

Katie works with acrylic paint on a large scale. She has been painting professionally for 17 years and her work is held in collections across Australia and worldwide.

The award-winning artist has held numerous solo exhibitions and participates regularly at The Affordable Art Fair and many group shows and exhibitions.

She is represented online as well as bricks and mortar galleries in South Australia and nationwide.

Her latest collection, Botanical Horizons, is a new body of work combining her love of the Australian landscape with lush botanical forms – a collection full of light and optimism featuring her trademark obsession with colour and texture.

Through her own personal perspective, Katie tries to capture not only the visual splendour of the Australian landscape but also its intangible qualities – the play of light on the water, the changing seasons and the ever-changing moods of the sky.

Through her paintings, Katie invites the viewer to see the world anew, to rediscover the magic that lies hidden in the landscapes of their own memories and emotions.

Botanical Horizons, opens at The Moree Gallery at 10am, Thursday, November 14.
