Gather for Gwydir an important fundraiser for Gwydir Industries

A huge fundraising experience for Moree’s best-loved organisation will be held at Tarrawingee Farm, west of Moree, on Friday, August 22.

Gather for Gwydir: Empowering the Next Generation Through Opportunity will raise much-needed funds for Gwydir Industries, a vitally important group established in Moree more than 60 years ago.

Gwydir Industries provides employment training and real work experience for people with disabilities and has stood as a beacon of opportunity in the Moree region since the early 1960s.

What began as a dream by parents wanting a better future for their children, has grown to a community-driven organisation dedicated to training, empowerment and meaningful employment.

Gwydir Industries relies heavily on major fundraisers and the incredible generosity of local residents, and business houses and industry, will again be showcased on August 22 at Tarrawingee Farm.

Gather for Gwydir, with a huge online auction Now Live Here that will transfer to in-person on the night, is a heartfelt event featuring fine food and entertainment, and dancing and fundraising at idyllic Tarrawingee Farm.

Gwydir Industries board president, Bill Crawford, said more than 50 businesses and individuals are supporting Gather for Gwydir.

“We are very humbled, and also very excited by this incredible support,” Mr Crawford said.

“The night will be an amazing gathering of the generous people of Moree and a night to celebrate and support Gwydir Industries.

“Our fundraising auction on the night will be live – and online leading up to the event – as well as silent auctions and a raffle with some amazing prizes worth thousands of dollars,” he said.

Gwydir Industries is modernising programs to better connect with the next generation, with plans to offer hands-on experiences in gardening, IT training, cooking, art, recycling, peg production and  trophy engraving.

“We recognised Gwydir Industries must help support the younger generation living with a disability in and around Moree,” Mr Crawford said.

“To do this, we have to adapt to the support they need and want, and Gwydir Industries hopes to add new services which will meet the support required.

“We are looking at a range of new services in areas like gardening, installing an art room, and new computer programmes to add to our existing services.

“In order to do this, we need support from the Moree community,” he said.

And the Moree community will no doubt again step up at Gather for Gwydir on August 22.

The huge night, with tickets available HERE, is supported by a long list of Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors, with donated auction items worth tens of thousands of dollars to be sold.

“I encourage the whole Moree community to get on social media or visit the Gwydir Industries website to buy raffle tickets, and bid on the auction items,” Mr Crawford said.

“Tickets for the night are also running out fast, so I recommend people book them quickly so they don’t miss out on what is planned to be an incredible evening.”
