Light shows and a whole lot of wow set to launch Run the Plains

WITH perfect weather forecast and record nominations, the starter’s gun is poised and ready to launch the two-day Run the Plains community-led running festival in Moree on Friday.

Organisers are thrilled to announce Cirque-Um-Navigate will bring their incredible roving performance to Run the Plains on opening night.

Cirque-Um-Navigate has performed across Australia at regional shows, agriculture events and corporate and public functions, and will perform live on Friday night in Balo Street.

Run the Plains co-organiser Kelly James said the Cirque-Um-Navigate team of talented variety performers and instructors will bring a unique blend of entertainment to Run the Plains.

“Think lights, flames, and a whole lot of ‘wow’ to set the stage for the Kiddos Dash, Kamilaroi K, and Community K down Balo Street,” Kelly said.

Run the Plains, jointly organised by Moree Little Athletics, Tourism Moree and Moree Run Club, is expected to draw more than 400 competitors across numerous events over diverse distances.

Moree will serve up perfect running conditions all weekend, with moderate spring temperatures forecast, clear skies overhead and just the hint of a breeze on both days.

“Saturday morning will be warm, so we urge everyone to slip-slop-and-slap before heading to Run the Plains as a competitor or spectator,” Kelly said.

“The hydration stations will take good care of everyone, with water and electrolytes, plus there’s a recovery zone and free access to Alpha Omega Recovery to recharge at the finish line.”

Alpha Omega Recovery is a self-sufficient recovery centre on wheels.

Run the Plains, a two-day event in Moree this week, has drawn competitors from across the region.

The mobile unit is designed to operate anywhere, anytime, and ensures athletes receive the care they need at running events like Run the Plains.

“A range of food and drink vendors will also be on-site to fuel participants and spectators,” Kelly said.

During Run the Plains, several Moree street and roads will be temporarily closed, including Balo Street from the intersections of Gwydir and Albert Streets from 5pm until 9pm on Friday.

On Saturday morning, Albert Street between Frome Street and the western side of Moree Services Club, Bank Street and Mary Brand Park road will be closed from 7am to midday.

To support the rapidly growing popularity of Run the Plains, Moree Plains Shire Council is providing in-kind support through sponsorship of fees associated with traffic control and road closures for the two-day, family-friendly fitness event.

Friday night’s launch features the Kamilaroi K, Kiddos Dash and Community K and the Triple 36.1Km and Half Marathon – 10km-5km-3km – on Saturday morning at Tourism Moree Visitor Information Centre from 7am.

Registration to compete is available 15 minutes before marshalling. Competitors can register HERE.

People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate in the wellbeing events, which include walking, jogging, running and sprinting.

Each race will have male and female age categories, based on age turned in 2025.

Presentations for all events will be held at the conclusion of the last race, at about 11.30am.

Those not interested in lacing up the joggers and taking part, can volunteer to help out.

“We have two big days with plenty happening, and will need plenty of help to make sure everything runs to plan,” Mrs James said.

“If anyone has a bit of spare time up their sleeve and would like to help out, please go to our new website and register your interest.”

Volunteers can contact Sara on 0448 519769.
