MOREE services organisation Bamara has relocated to new premises, and the entire community is invited to the grand opening next week.
Bamara, a joint venture between the David Liddiard Group and Asuria, is an Indigenous-owned business delivering social impact programs to Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
Owner and NRL great, David Liddiard, will officially open the new premises on Wednesday, September 11.
Bamara, named Organisation of the Year at the 2024 Moree Reconciliation Awards, is now located at 26 Balo Street.
Bamara marketing manager, Bashkim Nuka, invites the Moree community to join opening celebrations between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
“We invite everyone to along for a cuppa and a yarn, ask our team any questions, and learn about our services,” Mr Nuka said.
A barbecue lunch and light refreshments will be provided, and smoking ceremony and welcome to country will be performed to officially open the new space. Mr Nuka said Bamara Moree is for participants and their families to access local support and services, including NDIS Disability Support Services and the Driver Licensing Access Program.
“Our team in Moree includes Kerry Macey and her brother, Jimmy Bryans, both born-and-bred in Moree, and Kylie Stirling, who recently joined Bamara as the NDIS support co-ordinator,” Mr Nuka said.
Kerry is NDIS team leader, support mentor and driving instructor; Kylie is support co-ordinator; and Jimmy is a driving instructor.
“Their wealth of experience is invaluable when mentoring and supporting people in the Moree community,” Mr Nuka said.
“As a Registered NDIS provider, we are excited to have our Disability Support Services team delivering participants high-quality and culturally responsive support.
“Participants can utilise various supports around their life choices and goals and are backed by a passionate team who know the area and will strive to assist participants in reaching their goals, whether big or small,” Mr Nuka said.
The Driver Licensing Access Program (DLAP), a free program funded by Transport for NSW, helps people pass driving tests and gain confidence on the road.
“Through DLAP, we help eligible participants get their learner licenses and progress to provisional licenses,” Mr Nuka said.
“We offer free driving lessons, including assistance with studying for and booking the Driver Knowledge Test. We also support setting up a Work Development Order to help eligible participants pay off their debts with state revenue.”
Mr Nuka said people across the Moree community can easily connect with the Bamara team.
“Whether they need detailed information about our services or are keen to drop in for a yarn, we are excited and deeply committed to continuing our work to connect individuals and organisations across our communities,” he said.
Bamara driving instructor, Jimmy Bryans, said helping the Moree community was a priority.
“Seeing the expression on people’s faces when they pass their driving test is like no other feeling I have ever encountered,” Mr Bryans said.
“Kerry and I help them big-time but they’re the ones that put in the hard yards and get the cookies at the end of the day.”
