Moree dancers take to the stage this weekend

THERE is no shortage of dancing talent across the Moree Plains, and local youth will take to the stage this weekend to showcase their skills at the Moree Academy of Dance’s annual concert.

This year’s performance, Dreaming of Wonderland, is a modern interpretation of a classical favourite featuring a range of dance mediums, from contemporary jazz to classical ballet.

From adorable tutu-clad pre-schoolers to the breathtaking grace of Moree’s senior dancers, the annual concert – to be held this Saturday, November 16 at Moree West Public School – is a well-loved tradition for the Moree community. Moree Academy of Dance principal Chelsie Assef said she was thrilled with the students’ dedication and outstanding skills.

“We’re all so excited to perform what will be a wonderful show,” she said.

“There are so many people who contribute to make our vision a reality – from costume designers, stage display artists, and general parent helpers. I am so grateful to them all. It has come together beautifully and the kids are ready to take the stage,” she said.

Established by Chelsie in 2016, Moree Academy of Dance offers RAD ballet, lyrical, contemporary & jazz classes for children 18 months to 18 years.

Chelsie began dancing at the age of four under the guidance of Annette Dirickx in the Southern Highlands and more recently, Elizabeth Galloway and her team at LaVive Studios in Port Macquarie. Chelsie completed her HSC Dance in Accelerated Mode gaining a Band 6 while still in Year 11. Her major studies were in Performance and Choreography and her creative interests extend beyond the dance realm.

Chelsie completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Object at Sydney University’s College of the Arts and Moree has been her home for the past 10 years. She established the Moree Academy of Dance in 2016.

“We work with students within a safe and nurturing environment to build their knowledge, help them discover their unique artistry, and refine their technical skills,” Chelsie said.
