Moree Lions’ cakes on sale as countdown to Christmas ramps up

CHRISTMAS is just seven weeks away, and Moree Lions Club Christmas cakes are now available across town.

Moree Lions’ Beth Hearn said sales have been strong in recent weeks as the countdown to Christmas continues.

“We’ve got cakes in shops, businesses and offices all over Moree, and they are selling well – the Moree community is very generous, and very supportive of their local Lions Club,” Beth smiled.

Moree Lions have been busy all year, raising money for Moree and district schools, organisations and individuals.

The club recently donated $6000 to Moree schools – money raised chiefly from sales at community event barbecues.

Moree Lions Club members Steve Long and Beth Hearn have been busy delivering Christmas cakes to businesses and organisations across the Moree shire.

“We donate annually to local schools to give them a hand at the end of the year,” Beth said.

“The donations help the schools buy books, awards and incidentals that may have not been budgeted for during the year.

“All the profits from out barbecues go to community needs in our area,” she said.

Beth said Moree Lions Club has been looking for other fundraising opportunities, outside barbecues at market days, race-days and community events – and new members are always welcome.

“Anyone of any age can join Lions and they can help out in any way that fits in with their work or home schedules,” Beth said.

Outlets supporting sales of Moree Lions Club Christmas cakes include RDO, Tourism Moree, Keith Maher Forklifts, Mitre 10, Tait Toyota, Moree Pumps, Moree Spa Motel, Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, Hill Fitzsimmons, Moree Veterinary Hospital, Pius X, Moree Gun Club, Garah Post Office, McGregor Gourlay, Pally Pub, Reado’s Meats, Regional Australia Bank, Jukes Tyre Service, Gwydir Caravan Park, North West Real Estate, Bourke and Wills Motel, Agriware, Nutrien Ag, Moree Real Estate and Gwydir Steel.
