Moree Lions Christmas cakes available on Balo Street as the festive season looms

MOREE Lions Club volunteers are out and about selling scrumptious Christmas cakes and puddings in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Today marks exactly one month until the man in red drops down the chimney – and volunteers Darryl Brady and Will Garrett are getting in early with the perfect treats.

Will and Darryl this week set up shop at Brooker Trading Co on Balo Street, sell traditional one-kilogram Christmas cakes and 900-gram puddings for $16 each.

“We also have smaller 400-gram puddings for ten-dollars each,” Darryl said.

Will and Darryl will also sell cakes and puddings at Café Omega Sunday mornings during the countdown to Christmas.

Darryl, Moree Plains Volunteer of the Year in 2021, and Will are manning the Lions Club table from around 8.30am to midday each day.

“We’ll try and be there every day unless unforeseen circumstances dictate otherwise, and will set up at Café Omega on Sundays from 8am until midday,” Darryl said.

“We urge everybody to purchase their Christmas cakes and puddings while stocks last.”

Moree businesses and organisations have also thrown their support behind the fundraiser, with Christmas cakes available at RDO, Tourism Moree, Keith Maher Forklifts, Mitre 10, Tait Toyota, Moree Pumps, Moree Spa Motel, Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, Hill Fitzsimmons, Moree Veterinary Hospital, Pius X, Moree Gun Club, Garah Post Office, McGregor Gourlay, Pally Pub, Reado’s Meats, Regional Australia Bank, Jukes Tyre Service, Gwydir Caravan Park, North West Real Estate, Bourke and Wills Motel, Agriware, Nutrien Ag, Moree Real Estate and Gwydir Steel.

“We thank the community and the business houses of Moree for supporting the Lions, a wonderful institution which funds projects around the town and district,” Darryl said.

Cakes and puddings will also be available at the Moree Lions Club barbecue at the Jellicoe Park Christmas Markets on Sunday, December 7 and Sunday, December 21.
