MOREE volunteers will be out next week selling badges, pins and pens to raise much-needed funds for Legacy Australia, a non-profit charity that supports families of deceased or incapacitated veterans.
Legacy Australia was founded on a promise made during The Great War to “look after the missus and the kids” – and the vital organisation has been doing exactly that for more than 100 years.
Moree Legacy committee members, including president Eric Carrigan and secretary Trish Winter, and committee members and volunteers Darryl Brady, John Williams and Will Garrett, will visit businesses in Moree as well as set up a street stall to help raise money for Legacy, a uniquely Australian organisation.
“We are all geared up and will be all over Moree during Legacy Week to sell badges and pens,” Mr Brady said.
A special table will be at the front of Brooker Trading Co on Balo Street every day next week, with volunteers also visiting local businesses and organisations.
“I will be at Brooker’s Trading Co for the first couple of days before moving to South Moree along the highway from the main bridge out to RDO, and then over to the industrial area,” Mr Brady said.
“We are looking forward to a big week, and have bears, pens and an assortment of badges and pins to offer the generous people of Moree and visitors or travellers who might be passing through town.”
Legacy Australia provides essential financial, social, educational and developmental support to more than 30,000 beneficiaries across the country, including widows, partners and children of veterans who have given their lives or health in service to Australia.
Legacy Australia is made up of autonomous clubs across Australia, run by dedicated volunteers called Legatees, who ensure families receive long-term assistance.
Legacy is supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life, with support and services now extending to include the dependants of members of today’s Australian Defence Force who lose their lives or their health as a result of military service.
“Legacy is a very important organisation, and Legacy Week is one of its biggest annual fundraisers right across Australia, and our sub-committee in Moree is proud to be a part of it all,” Mr Brady said.
