Moree Riders’ Club BMX season in full swing

ROUND four of the Moree Riders’ Club’s 12-week season hit the berms and box-jumps for a few bar-spins and bunny-hops on Thursday, but mostly it was all about having fun and bringing the community together.

The 2025-2026 season sprang from the starting gates in October and will run for 12 weeks across two sessions, with a break over the Christmas school holidays.

Club committee member, Rob McLane – one of the many volunteers who help club president Steele Sutton with track maintenance and event development to suit skills – said the Thursday night, one-hour sessions are becoming increasingly popular.

“Everything went really well. Everyone chipped in and helped – they were amazing – and the kids had a great time,” Rob said.

“We’ve got new kids turning up nearly every week. It’s getting bigger and bigger, and it’s great to see the community coming out and supporting the club.

“We had about 30 kids and adults riding tonight in ages from about four or five up to their 40s,” he said.

“Nights like this are mostly fun and skills-based. We do a bit of a points-base thing to work out handicaps so even if kids might be a little mid-pack, they have a chance to complete well in the staggered races.

“It gives them a bit of drive and really helps their confidence, and we’re seeing kids improve their skills every time they come – it’s great,” Rob said.

A good roll-up of kids and adults ranging in ages from about four up to 40-plus took part in round four of Moree Riders’ Club’s competition on Thursday night.

Parent Jimmy Bryans, whose son Jaylan participates every week, said the Moree Riders’ Club committee is doing a fantastic job.

“This sort of thing gives the kids an idea about discipline, while having fun,” Jimmy said.

“There’s a good committee, led by Steele Sutton. Chris Thomas talks with the kids and shows them everything he knows and Phil O’Loughlin does the barbecue every week.

“Events like this brings the community together. Sometimes, we can have up to 50 or 60 people here.

“These afternoons give kids a chance to improve their riding skills while making new friends.”

Jimmy’s son, Jaylan, registered the hottest lap time (50 seconds) for Division 2 riders, with father-son duo, Chris and Chuck Thomas, topping Division 1, stopping the clock at 42 and 41 seconds respectively.

Hot lap time for Division 3 was recorded by Joel Kitto (56 seconds) and Zac Hook clocked 100 seconds in Division 4.

Elouise Hunt, Edwina Hook, Dion Kitto, Xavier Jennings and Broncs and Wilder Kemp all registered impressive lap times in the mini-wheelers’ class.

The first half of the 2025-2026 season will run until Thursday, November 27 and resume on Thursday, February 19 next year.

Riders are required to sign on at 5.30pm, with one-hour sessions starting at 5.45pm.
