MOREE Riders’ Club this week completed its autumn three-race series – a timely wind-up as winter takes hold.
The club, formed last year by Steele Sutton and a group of parents and volunteers, has completely reshaped the old velodrome circuit at the end of Endeavour Lane, near Taylor Oval.
The Moree Riders’ Track has held several weekly series’ events to suit the seasons and school terms since November last year, and Sutton says interest is still very strong.
“We are getting plenty of young riders each week, but will now have a rest until Term 4,” Sutton said.
“Our most recent series was fantastic, and was only made possible thanks to the club’s committee and many volunteers who help out on a regular basis, especially our good mate, Phil O’Loughlin, who rarely missed a night on the barbecue.
“Also, Darren Colbran and his crew from Moree council’s parks and gardens have been awesome, and are always there to help out,” Sutton said.
The club on Monday held its Term 2 finals’ series, with plenty of riders and plenty of winners.
Division 1 was won by Nick Schneebeli with Justus Sutton and Felix Schneebeli filling the minor placings.
First place in Division 2 was shared by Benjamin Hook and Joel Kitto, with Van Bartlett and Austin Legg right on their pedals.
Division 3 was taken out by Nathan Walker, with Dion Kitto and Clancy Grant second and third respectively.
“Our overall champion for Series 1 was Nick Schneebeli, with 56 points, and close up were Benjamin Hook, Joel Kitto and Nathan Walker on 55 points,” Sutton said.
Series 1 total point-scorers were Nick Schneebeli (56), Benjamin Hook (55), Joel Kitto (55), Nathan Walker (55), Van Bartlett (49), Justus Sutton (46), Felix Schneebeli (41), Austin Legg (38), Jakob Schneebeli (30), Rob McLane (29), Otto Van Spyker (28), Dion Kitto (28), Digby Collier (27), Clancy Grant (27), Rueben Cobb (26), Digby Simmonds (24), Alex Grant (23), Jacob McLane (18), Blyde Evans (14) and Isaac Sutton (4).
Club Mini-Wheelers included Broncs Kemp, Edwina Hook, Wylder Kemp, Eloise Hunt, Eli Lockery, Xavier Jennings, Orlando Hunt and Boston Solomon.
Sutton said while the club will be in recess until Term 4, kids will travel to keep riding.
“We’ll go to Tamworth to join the club there for skills’ sessions and a fun day of riding,” Sutton said.
The Tamworth BMX Club Sunday Funday is scheduled Sunday, June 29.
Coaching will be held between 10am and midday, followed by a half-hour warm-up before club racing commences at 12.40pm.
“We’re looking forward to the Tamworth trip – the club has got a fantastic facility,” Sutton said.
“Later this year, the Moree club will be back in Term 4 for Series 2, and that will include our age club championships.”
