A morning for dad at the Fathers’ Day Moree Markets wouldn’t be complete without the annual Moree Motor Trade Expo and Show and Shine – and this year more than 80 exhibitors rumbled into the northern side of Jellicoe Park to be shown and shined on a perfect Moree spring day.
There were 13 vehicles from the Hunter Region Jaguar Drivers’ Club and 11 entrants from Inverell Antique Motor Club, as well as vintage, classic and antique cars and trucks from Narrabri, Gunnedah and Warialda.
Moree Motor Enthusiasts’ Club hosts the annual event, which attracted visitors from across New South Wales and Queensland.
Club treasurer Gwanita Hill said the show and shine was again a huge success.
“There was a great display of trucks as well as at least 20 motorcycles,” Mrs Hill said.
“We also had service displays by Moree SES, Moree Rural Fire Service, Corrective Services, NSW Police, and trade displays from Thomas Lee, Auto Group, Regional Australia Bank and Lexi Styles.”
THE Jellicoe Park Fathers’ Day Markets are traditionally the biggest of the year – made bigger by the annual car show.
Sponsors for the day included Hill Fitzsimmons, BP Truckstop and Depot, Moree Services Club, Diesel Gas Technologies, Fred Monckton Bearing Centre, V6 Conversions, Tait Auto Group, Moree Auto Electrics, Black Truck Moree, Land Transport, Tyre Power Moree, Thomas Lee Motorcycles and Brown Hurley Kyogle.
Most Outstanding Vehicle was awarded to Rob Goodwin’s 1971 HQ Holden ute and Best Street Rod went to Kevin Louis’ red Chevrolet Roadster.
Moree vehicle enthusiast Frank Ledingham admitted being only 11 years older than his immaculate 1955 Bedford truck, bought a couple of years ago.
“I haven’t had it all that long,” Mr Ledingham said.
“I bought it from my neighbour, Greg Fing – he’s a real Bedford man – and did it up about three years ago.”
First-time exhibitor, Craig Pritchard, spent all day Saturday cleaning and polishing his recently-bought 1976 Leyland Mini Clubman to prepare for Sunday’s show and shine.
“I bought the vehicle in Ballarat and only had it a few months,” Mr Pritchard said.
“I’ve loved them since I was a kid and always wanted one. It’s great – good fun.
“I bought it as is, but there are little things I’ll do to it to make it mine.
“The care drives really great and since I’ve had it, I’ve done the suspension up, and put new disc brakes on the front.
“It’s much more driveable now, and is on full rego, so I can drive whenever I want,” he smiled.
Moree SES was named Best Trade Display and the Best Represented Club Award went to Hunter Region Jaguar Drivers’ Club.
