Moree Show will ooze SAX Appeal Friday night

MOREE’s newest group, SAX Appeal, will strut their stuff on the Moree Show main stage Friday night. And the word is out – they won’t disappoint.

SAX Appeal was born when multi-instrumentalists Nathan Davis, Stephen McPherson and James Barron started jamming together.

The boys were determined to create a band that offered something a little fresh and different to the Moree music scene.

McPherson, a well-established local drummer also plays with The Contingency Plan.

Now, he’s broadened his musical horizons by establishing himself as a guitarist and vocalist with SAX Appeal.

Davis, also a drummer, has played in an assortment of acts and he too has expanded his creative repertoire to feature on vocals and saxophone.

Barron, originally from the Kempsey area, has played bass and keyboards with many touring bands across the central coast area of New South Wales.

He jumped at the opportunity to play with local musicians when making a career move to Moree.

The three became six after holding open jam sessions with friends and other local musicians.

Jacson Warner, a solo guitarist who successfully competed in different outfits in Battle of the Band competitions in his youth, demonstrates his appeal through his shredding ability.

Nathan Cobb, also known as Cobby, is SAX Appeal’s seasoned drummer and Stevie Drenkhahn – no stranger to music and performance – found a spot in the band to let those brass notes ring through on the trumpet and use her lungs to belt out smashing vocals.

“Cobby was originally a drumming rival to Nathan, with the two competing against each other in some of the first rounds of Moree Superstar. He came along and sunk nicely into the groove of the outfit,” Stevie explained.

“We merged together to become SAX Appeal, and have been gigging around for a little while now and opening shows for Kicked in BiKKie Tin.”

SAX Appeal also become the house band at open mic nights in Moree and Pallamallawa and played at  Moree On a Plate’s Sunset Soirée.

“Our repertoire is vast and varied, including pop-rock, pop-punk, modern disco, ska and the occasional pub classic,” Stevie said.

SAX Appeal’s performances are energetic, fun and bouncy, with music to get up and dance to.

“We’ve also been known to perform a ripper version of a classic Kate Bush number,” Stevie grinned.
