HUNDREDS of Moree residents and visitors enjoyed perfect September weather on Sunday when the St Philomena’s P&F Association rolled out the welcome mat at the annual St Phillies Spring Fair.
The huge morning, one of the school’s biggest fundraisers of the year, featured trash ‘n’ treasure and produce stalls, inflatable kids’ zone and sideshow alley, and a monster raffle and chocolate wheel.
There was plenty of food, beverages and treats as well as a football passing competition, duck shoot and nerf zone, and face-painting for the little ones.
St Philomena’s P&F president, Chris Hartin, said a good old-fashioned Moree spring really turned it on for the Spring Fair.
“It’s been a great morning,” Mr Hartin said.
“As always in Moree, people are very generous and have shown up to support the school and the P&F.
“The Spring Fair is one of the good family events held each year in Moree. There was something for everyone, with treats and activities for the little kids as well as the big kids, and plenty for the parents.”
Parents, visitors and children wandered through plants and produce stands, the ever-popular tombola, chocolate roulette and a kids’ craft corner.
Live entertainment was provided by St Phillies students throughout the morning.
“The high school kids have done a great job putting on the music for us,” Mr Hartin said.
Mr Hartin said the entire school community again supported the event.
“We’re very lucky with all the volunteers we’ve got, because a lot of work goes into a day like this,” Mr Hartin said.
Visitors to St Philomena’s also got a sneak peek of the school’s new administration block at the school’s Boston Street entrance, being delivered by North Construction and Building.
The development includes an extension and refurbishment to two levels within the existing teaching spaces, converting them into senior secondary classrooms as well as adding a new lift and common break-out space. Further upgrades will include a new carpark and external landscaping.
“The massive renovations and extensions that have been happening over the past two years are very impressive,” Mr Hartin said.
“People have shown up, the weather has been fantastic and it’s been a great day out, as always,” he said.
