RSL NSW has the road for the 2026 Listening Tour, with stopovers in Tamworth today and Inverell tomorrow.
The tour gives members across New South Wales the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the state’s largest veterans’ charity.
The Inverell leg will take place at the Inverell RSM Club at 10.30am tomorrow.
As the RSL prepares to mark its 110th anniversary in June this year, the Listening Tour represents an opportunity to ensure the long-term viability of New South Wales’ oldest ex-service organisation.
The Listening Tour sees acting RSL NSW president Vince Williams, RSL NSW directors, and staff travel across the state to host a series of face-to-face forums, and provide members with the opportunity to take part in open and honest discussions to shape the development of the organisation’s new strategic plan.
Mr Williams said the League’s most recent Strategic Plan had delivered strong results and demonstrated the power of a clear, member-driven roadmap.
“Our current Strategic Plan has been instrumental in driving membership growth, including attracting younger veterans to the organisation; strengthening the supports available to veterans and their families; and fostering social connection and wellbeing through innovative initiatives, such as the RSL NSW Sport & Recreation Program,” Mr Williams said.
“That success gives us a strong foundation, but it also reinforces why this Listening Tour is so important. This is the opportunity for members to tell us what the next roadmap should look like, and how we continue evolving to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s Defence and veteran community.”
The Listening Tour continues the conversation that began at the 2025 State Congress, where sub-branch delegates participated in a full-day strategic planning workshop to consider where RSL NSW is headed.
That conversation delivered a clear and consistent message: the League’s future depends on unity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to care, camaraderie and charitable support.
The delegates identified six key areas where support from RSL NSW is needed to better serve veterans and their families, including responsible investment to ensure long-term sustainability of all sub-branches.
Volunteer recruitment and retention, improved leadership and wellbeing training, modern and standardised ICT systems, streamlined governance and reporting requirements, stronger alignment across all levels of RSL NSW, with enhanced partnerships have also been identified as key areas.
The Listening Tour is a critical next step in translating these priorities into a clear, actionable strategic plan that will position RSL NSW to continue delivering on its charitable objectives for veterans and their families.
Members who are unable to attend a face-to-face forum will be able to have their say through a virtual online session on Wednesday, March 4.
