Inverell: teenager charged over alleged stabbing

A teenage boy has been charged over an alleged stabbing at Inverell.

Just after 4.45pm on Friday, January 17, police were called to a hospital in Inverell following reports of a teenager with a stab wound.

Officers attached to New England Police District were told the 17-year-old boy was involved in a fight with another boy – known to him – on Ross Street, Inverell, before he was allegedly stabbed to the left side of his back.

He was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening injuries.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, at about 2am Saturday, January 18, police arrested a 14-year-old boy.

A kitchen knife was seized to be forensically examined.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, custody of knife in public place, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

He was refused bail and appeared a children’s court today, Saturday, January 18.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children’s court next Thursday, January 23.
