MOREE Race Club will stage a seven-race TAB meeting on Tuesday, June 3, with nominations expected to come from across New South Wales and southern Queensland after recent flooding and big rain events have forced owners and trainers inland.
The Moree meeting, with $195,000 prize money, features a $30,000 1400m Country Boosted BM-58 Handicap and $30,000 1200m Country Boosted Maiden Handicap.
Supporting races are each worth $27,000.
Nominations close at 11am today, May 28.
Rain and flooding continues to wreak havoc along the New South Wales coast and further inland, with meetings transferred to higher ground.
Inverell Jockey Club last week staged a huge 10-race card, primarily for coastal horses, and will back up tomorrow with a seven-race meeting to compensate the washed out meeting at Armidale.
Moree’s meeting next Tuesday comes ahead of round two of bush racing’s Golden Triangle at Mallawa on Saturday, June 7.
Meanwhile, Racing NSW last week announced a substantial emergency financial assistance package totalling $650,000 to support racing participants in northern New South Wales, following the recent severe flooding and extreme weather events that have devastated the mid-north coast and northern rivers regions.
The financial assistance aims to help those affected by significant disruptions, including cancelled race meetings and the inability to train horses due to unsafe conditions.
The assistance is structured to provide targeted and practical support with $500,000 distributed directly to trainers across the impacted regions.
The funds will be allocated based on the number of horses unable to compete due to the weather.
Trainers will retain 20 per cent of the payment to help offset personal income losses and the remaining 80 per cent will be credited to owners’ accounts to help cover ongoing training fees. An additional $150,000 will be provided to jockeys and apprentice jockeys in the region who have lost opportunities to earn prizemoney due to the disruption of scheduled race meetings.
Racing NSW has also worked collaboratively with the Manning Valley Race Club and the NSW Trainers Association to assist the most severely affected trainers in Taree.
This includes safely relocating horses to higher ground, delivering feed and essential supplies, and organising barge transport of feed for horses stranded by floodwaters and inaccessible roads.

“We understand the immense challenges our trainers and jockeys are facing, and we want to play our part to ensure the financial stress is minimal.”
