New facilities for Barraba Rugby grounds

BARRABA Rugby is now home to new changerooms and new playground, providing a boost to the club’s existing facility and offering more inclusivity.

The addition of new changerooms will support the club in being able to host larger games and community events.

Some of the key features of the new facility include additional toilet facilities, dedicated female change-room, first-aid room, referees change-room and additional storage space.

Tamworth Regional Council’s project planning and delivery manager, Mark Gardiner, says council is proud to deliver the project on behalf of the Barraba Rugby Union Football Club.

“We worked closely with the Barraba Rugby Club to determine what features they most needed and what we were able to deliver within the budget,” Mr Gardiner said.

“We are pleased to see this community infrastructure project provide more inclusivity with the addition of a female change room, and ultimately enable the club the ability to host larger events and grow the sport in to the future.”

The construction of the new building was proudly funded by the NSW Government, with the Barraba Rugby Union Football Club having been successful in gaining $678,000 from the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

With the support of these funds, the old playground was replaced with a brand-new playground.

“We’ve also constructed new play equipment outdoors and installed new fencing and organic soft-fall surfacing around the play area,” Mr Gardiner said.

“It’s a fantastic upgrade – not only for the local club, but also for the wider community who now have an additional modern space for children to enjoy.”
