GOONDIWINDI Regional Council will revitalise tourism signage after allocating $75,000 over the last 12 months to the project, as part of its Visitor Economy Strategy.
Mayor Lawrence Springborg, also the portfolio holder for Economic Development and Tourism, said tourism was not just about attracting visitors but about showcasing and promoting the region.
“By upgrading our signage, Council creates lasting impressions that inspire visitors to explore and discover all the Goondiwindi region has to offer,” Cr Springborg said.
“Council also recognises tourism’s importance in driving economic development, job creation and longevity, and shaping our community’s identity.
“I can tell you tourism is a key focus for the entire Councillor team. We’re working to promote our region as a must-visit destination.
“You’ll see this in our public initiatives, like the new tourism signage around town. But there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes. We’re supporting local tourism businesses, operating visitor information centres, developing promotional material and funding events and activities across the region,” he said.
“As a Council team, we are focused on ensuring what we’re committed to is of a high standard. That is why most funding has focused on replacing or upgrading existing signage. In some cases, we also removed outdated signs in the region.
“Council is proud of the new Welcome to Goondiwindi Region signs that are in the process of being finalised on each of the five highway entries into the region,” Cr Springborg said.
“These will provide a fresh, new, and welcoming approach to the region as visitors and locals travel our highways.
“Council frequently receives positive feedback about the presentation of our community. First impressions play a part in determining visitor perceptions. Approximately two-thirds of Council staff work outdoors, maintaining our parks, gardens, roads and infrastructure, which is a credit to them,” he said.
The allocated budget has seen the enhancement of several prominent signs across the region, including:
Replacement of Grinners are Winners signs at entry points to Goondiwindi;
New ‘Welcome to the Region’ signage along highways – in progress;
Replacement of Texas High Street Things to do map;
Replacement of olive walkway signs in Inglewood;
Replacement of Main Street banners in Inglewood and Texas;
Replacement of the Welcome to Texas sign – in progress; and
Upgrades to Goondiwindi Town Map signs.
