Northern Tablelands does well in 2025-26 NSW Budget

MOREE Hospital upgrades, work on the Special Activation Precinct, and work on other major projects and programs across the Northern Tablelands will continue after Treasurer Daniel Mookhey today handed down the 2025-26 NSW Budget.

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has secured approximately $252 million in additional funding for the electorate as part of the budget.

Mr Moylan said the $252 million is on top of funds already committed to the region for major projects such as the $105 million Moree Hospital redevelopment, the $50 million Glen Innes Hospital upgrade, and the $224.8 million Moree Special Activation precinct.

Much of the new funding will be spent on roads, social housing, hospitals and schools within the region.

Mr Moylan said the Northern Tablelands has fared well in comparison to several other regional areas.

“The last 12 months of working hard, engaging with ministers and constantly advocating for our communities every chance I have has paid off,” he said.

“More than $231 million will be spent on roads in the electorate, plus there will be an additional $14.4million spent on significant works on Waterfall Way between Armidale and Bellingen, and the provision of additional overtaking lanes on the Newell Highway between Moree and Narrabri.

“Nearly $6 million will be spent on social housing while works will continue on Armidale City Public School and Rocky River Public School.

“It is also great to see $18.7 million allocated for the Pindari Dam cold water pollution and fish friendly water extraction project. This funding is shared between the Federal and State Governments, so this figure is also in addition to the $252 million.

“I will never stop pushing for more funding but securing an additional $252 million from the 2025-26 NSW Budget is a solid outcome for our region.”

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan said the region has fared well in the 2025-26 NSW Budget but there is always a need for more funding.

Some of the budget highlights include $231 million for roads; $5.8 million to improve social housing; $4 million for the Reconnecting Water Course program; $1.3 million to continue the Keep On Track program in Moree and Armidale; $1.8 million for Community Connectors to continue providing support to First Nations students in Armidale; public pre-school delivery at Toomelah and Warialda; Moree and Glen Innes Hospital upgrades to continue; continuing upgrade works to Armidale City Public School and Rocky River Public School; work on the Moree SAP to continue; and $285,000 for school crossing safety.

“I’m happy with this outcome but there is a lot more to do and I will continue advocating for our communities,” Mr Moylan said.
