Rising Sun Film Society presents What We Did On Our Holiday June 15

WITH Billy Connelly in a starring role, What We Did On Our Holiday can only be good.

What We Did on Our Holiday is a 2014 British black comedy-drama written and directed by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, best-known for their television work on shows like Not The Nine O’clock News, Drop The Dead Donkey and Outnumbered.

In What We Did On Our Holiday, a family of five head to grand-dad’s 75th birthday at an uncle’s estate in Scotland.

Starring David Tennant, Rosamund Pike, and Billy Connolly, What We Did On Our Holiday was filmed on location in Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands also stars Celia Imrie, Ben Miller, Emilia Jones, Amelia Bullmore and Annette Crosby.

Parents Doug and Abi McLeod – David Tennant and Rosamund Pike – are separated and hope their three kids won’t mention it to grand-dad, Gordie, played by Billy Connelly.

Doug and Abi unite following a tense separation and travel to the Scottish Highlands for Gordie’s 75th birthday.

Gordie has terminal cancer so Doug’s millionaire brother, Gavin, arranges a lavish party.

Rated 8/10 on IMDb, What We Did On Our Holiday takes a comedic look family dynamics and relationships.

Reviewer Graham Young said What We Did On Our Holiday was the “most enjoyable British movie of the year” and a film that “will lift your spirits, tickle your ribs and tearfully remind you of elderly relatives past and present”.

“Connolly delivers an imperiously heartfelt performance while drawing on his own mixture of exuberance tempered with the sensitivity of what was then his own private cancer battle during filming.

“The mid-section, in which the children play with grandad is breathtakingly good, full of wisdom and fun, inquisitiveness and the kind of impulsive behaviour that only minors can have,” Young said.
